They cant behold the sight but then, they
heard a voice that said.
“fear not, truly you are on a divine mission,
the land of iye would bring you wealth, but be
careful,
.
.
Its better to give than to receive”
With that last word they raised their heads up
to look on who was talking with them but they
discovered that no one was with them nor
speaking to them.
They were astonished with this manifestation.
Kunle believed it all what the strange voice
had said and kept on pondering on the last
words.
.
“Its better to give than to receive”
It kept ringing in his mind.
Kunle and segun proceded on their journey,
they got there early that morning,
They asked for the local chief, they went and
introduced themselves to him, to show thier
goodwill.
Segun suggested they rebuild the chief’s ram
shacked hut, making it larger and bigger and
with more rooms.
The man was pleasantly surprised.
In fact he was astonished.
He gave them a piece of land to build their
own house too.
.
.
.
.
The people liked the two men who had come
to live with them and all the building
contracts by both native and strangers in the
land where given to them.
Thier handiwork was always neat and long
lasting, their cost was not too high and there
was honesty in evert deal.
By the fourth year, kunle and segun had built
their personal houses on different plots of
land bought by themsleves, they sold the
former.
They became successful and wealthy building
contractors at iye.
.
.
.
Kunle always tried to remind segun about
home.
“don’t forget we are here only for seven years:
Home is home we have to go back home when
out time is up”
“don’t bother me o jare” segun would reply.
.
While kunle was always generous to everybody
Segun always found it difficult to give render
help to people.
Beggars would come meeting them on site,
kunle would give them whatever he had for
food,
Segun always feel annoyed at kunle
generosity.
Segun would always sent them away, he would
keep repeating the same word.
“ha! Useless people, i gave you yesterday why
should i give you again today? Get away joor!”
People would meet kunle at home to ask for
some money to pay for the chief’s priest
medication, he took over the whole expenses
while segun would made fun of him.
Young people who wanted to marry would
invite them as their special guest.
.
Kunle would honoured their invitation and
also donate some money while segun would
shun them.
Even burial ceremony
Segun would react rudely…
He will always say:-
“shey na me kill their papa ni?, at least i
didn’t kill their grandfather, why me?”
.
.
At a stage segun jeered at kunle
“your generosity is having the better of you!
This is the reason you are yet to finish the
second building and the wall round your large
compound, compared to mine.
Kunle, no wonder i am better than you, the
good food you are supposed to eat, you give
to beggars and these jobless people while you
starve, i don’t understand you”
Segun would complain…
